How to translate RPG Maker XP, VX, and VX Ace with LRPGM
Follow a safe workflow to detect, extract, review, and apply translations to RPG Maker XP, VX, and VX Ace games.
What changes in legacy engines
RPG Maker XP, VX, and VX Ace use RGSS structures that differ from MV and MZ. LRPGM identifies the engine from the executable and game folder, prepares compatible data, and lists the sources that can be processed safely. You do not need to open or replace internal project files manually.
Availability for these engines and advanced features depends on the access displayed on your account. Check your plan before starting a large project.
Step by step
1. Fully extract the game and create a separate working copy.
2. Open LRPGM, sign in, and select Add game.
3. Choose the .exe used to launch the game.
4. Confirm that LRPGM correctly identified XP, VX, or VX Ace.
5. Open the project and select the source and target languages.
6. Choose an available translation engine and review the detected sources.
7. Start preparation and translation. Do not close LRPGM while it processes project data.
8. Review dialogue, names, items, skills, and system terms. Preserve markers and codes displayed with the text.
9. Finish the project, apply it to the registered copy, and test the game.
Fonts and characters
Legacy games may use fonts without accents or all characters required by the target language. If translated text appears as squares, symbols, or missing letters, review the project font options and use a compatible font without randomly renaming files.
When a game needs extra attention
Custom scripts, modified battle systems, protected files, and external launchers can change where text is stored. If a source is missing, do not force manual changes. Include the RPG Maker version, game source, and detected structure when you report the problem.
Keep safety backups enabled and test menus, battles, inventory, and important events after applying the translation.
