How to translate RPG Maker MV and MZ games with LRPGM

Learn how to add, configure, review, and apply a translation to an RPG Maker MV or MZ game without manually editing JSON files.

Official content by LRPGM Team

Before you start

Install LRPGM and keep an extracted copy of the game on your computer. RPG Maker MV and MZ games usually store maps, events, database content, and system terms in structured files. LRPGM detects these sources from the project so you do not need to edit JSON files manually.

The current Free access focuses mainly on MV and MZ. Additional resources, translation engines, and limits depend on the access displayed on your account.

Step by step

1. Open LRPGM and sign in, or use guest mode for a quick trial.

2. Under My projects, select Add game.

3. Choose the .exe that actually launches the game. Do not select a shortcut or installer.

4. Wait for LRPGM to identify RPG Maker MV or MZ and add the project to your library.

5. Open the project and use Express Translation for a guided flow, or choose manual mode to control sources, filters, languages, and the translation engine.

6. Review the detected sources. Include dialogue, choices, database content, plugins, and other groups only when they belong in your translation.

7. Start translation and wait for processing to finish.

8. Review names, codes, variables, and line breaks before applying.

9. Select Finish project, wait for apply to complete, and test the game from the beginning.

Does the flow change between MV and MZ?

The main experience is the same. The detector identifies the project structure and shows compatible sources. Plugins, custom systems, and heavily modified games can store text outside the standard structure; in those cases, review the source list and every warning shown by LRPGM.

Important precautions

- Work on a copy of the game and keep safety backups enabled.

- Do not translate file names, commands, or markers unless they are confirmed visible text.

- Preserve variables and special sequences during review.

- After applying, test menus, a new game, choices, and scenes that use plugins.

If the executable is not recognized, make sure the game is fully extracted and read the game detection guide.
